Expertise in one line: Development of varieties in Paddy and Sugarcane involved in development and release of 19 rice varieties and involved in development and release of 9 sugarcane varieties.

Notable contributions :

  • Involved in development and release of 27 varieties out of which nineteen are paddy varieties viz., Tolakari (MTU 1031), Godavari (MTU 1032), Indra (MTU 1061), Pushyami (MTU 1075), Amara (MTU 1064), Sridhruthi (MTU 1121), Chanra (MTU 1153), Tarangani (MTU 1156), Samrudhi (MTU 1155), Varam (MTU 1190), Ksheera (MTU 1172), Bheema (MTU 1140), Varsha (MTU 1223), Sravani (MTU 1239), Sujatha (MTU 1210), MTU Rice 1212, MTU Rice 1280, MTU 1273, MTU 1293 and eight sugarcane varieties viz., Visakha (97A 85), Uttara (98A 163), Simhadri (2003 A 255), Revathi (2000A 225), Srimukhi (2005A 128), Vasista (2009A 107), Naveen (2009A 252) and Arundathi (2012A 319).

  • Identified and registered 2010A 229 under triat specific germplasm for red rot resistance with NBPGR

  • Registered two clones viz., CoA 14321 (2009A 107 – Vasista) & CoA 14323 (2009A 252 – Naveen) with PPV & FRA

  • Identified two clones viz., 2015A 311 & 2017A 553 with tolerance to Yellow Leaf Disease

  • Developed protocols for production of tissue culture seedlings for 16 clones

  • Established quality analysis laboratory for quality testing of paddy at RARS, Maruteru under RKVY project

  • Strengthened and established tissue culture laboratory and involved in production of sugarcane tissue culture seedlings and supplied disease free seed material to sugar factories and farmers.

  • Involved in production of paddy breeder seed production seed of released varieties in addition to sugarcane production and contributed to revolving fund generation.

Research Interests :

  • Development of sugarcane varieties suited for ethanol production. Development of protocol for mass production of tissue culture seedlings using bioreactor at low cost.

Professional recognition :

  • Standardised protocols for production of tissue culture seedings through meristem tip culture

  • Standardised protocol for production of tissue culture seedlings through bio temporary immersion bioreactor

  • Initiated research work for production of resistant / tolerant varieties to YLD in sugarcane and identified two clones.

  • Involved in production of breeder and foundation seed in Paddy and Sugarcane and supplied to farmers, sugar factories.

  • Looking after the sugarcane research through out the state

  • Serving tribal and scheduled caste farmer by supply of inputs and by conducting trainings.
