Notable contributions :
Among various components evaluated, the field release of Trichogramma chilonis @ 50,000 ha-1 at 30 DAP
and two times after node formation at an interval of 7 days in combination with installation of pheromone
traps @ 25 ha-1 for mass trapping at 30 DAP till harvest had registered comparatively less infestation of
sugarcane borers. BIPM based treatments also exerted better efficacy in per cent reduction of the sugarcane
borers besides good yields with a C: B ratio of 1:1.26 and found on par with the above mentioned treatments.
Among all the biopesticides evaluated, Metarhizium anisopliae had registered highest per cent reduction of mean number
of setts and mean portion of setts infested by termites in sugarcane with 56.03 and 56.20 per cent reduction over control,
respectively. Even though insecticides had exerted superiority in suppressing the termite infestation in sugarcane the
biopesticide, M. anisopliae is also effective and can be recommended as alternative to chemical based insecticides at least
for one application as basal application at planting time.
The cumulative efficacy of various treatments in suppressing the scale incidence and infestation clearly elucidated that
among various treatments, without destrashing application of imidacloprid @ 0.25 ml/l and clothionidin @ 0.25g/l were
effective with 82.82 & 58.04 and 79.52 & 55.74 per cent reduction over control.
Among various insecticides, efficacy of imidacloprid @ 0.25 ml/l had recorded significantly highest per cent mean mortality of
pyrilla egg masses and nymphs+ adult mortality with 87.31 and 77.42, respectively. Highest potentiality of parasitism by
Epiricania melanoleuca on pyrilla egg masses and nymphs+ adult mortality was registered in case with untreated control
followed by imidacloprid with 58.50 & 52.33 and 44.80 & 41.73 per cent, respectively. The natural parasitism by E.
melanoleuca had ranged between 51.1 to 64.3 per cent parasitism levels and chemicals usage is to be adopted for pyrilla
management in sugarcane when the pest crosses ETL
