Brief Profile of Dr. ALLA APPALA SWAMY

Expertise in one line : Development of Rice, Mesta, Sugarcane and Sesame cultivars through conventional plant breeding methods

Research:

Twelve years of research experience working with rice fallow pulses, rice, mesta, sugarcane and sesame crops.

Involved in development of one Rice Variety: RGL1-11414(Vamsadhara) ; four Mesta Varieties: AMV-7(Janardhan) ;AMV-8 ; AMV-9 and AMV-10 ; four Sugarcane varieties: 2005 A 128, 2006A223, 2009A 207 and 2009A252.

Worked in the All India Network Project on Jute and Allied crops and the All India Coordinated Project on Sugarcane from 2010-14 & 2014-17 respectively.

Attended International and national conferences for fiber crops and sugarcane.

Previously worked as Head of the research stations of ARS, Ragolu and ARS, Amadalavalasa from 2009-2010 and 2012-14 respectively.

Teaching:

Thirteen years of teaching experience for UG and PG courses of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding at Agricultural College, Naira.

Guided five Postgraduate students.

Prepared the Practical class manuals for Undergraduate Genetics and Plant breeding courses at the College level.

Acted as Officer-in-charge (Student affairs), Officer-in-charge (Academic matters) and Warden (Boys Hostels) at Agricultural college, Naira.

Research Interests :

Development of phyllody and Macrophomina root rot-resistant varieties in sesame through conventional and non-conventional plant breeding approaches.

Professional recognition :

Member of the Academic council of ANGRAU from 2018-2023.

The plant breeder worked for improvement of all the major crops (rice, mesta, sugarcane and sesame) of the North coastal Andhra zone.

Member of Indian Society of Genetics and Plant breeding and plant genetic resources.
