Born in Gokavaram village near Rajahmundry, East Godavary district, Andhra Pradesh in 1969. Dr.Rao had his schooling in the same village and graduated, post graduated and persued Doctor of philosophy in Agriculture college, Bapatla, Guntur district from 1982 to 1992. Dr.Rao has selected as mandal agricultural officer, maredumilli in department of agriculture in June 1992 and later he joined in Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University in September 1993 at Regional Sugarcane and Rice Research Station, Rudrur, Nizambad district, Telangana. He has also associated in development and identification of many advanced crop production and physiological technologies in paddy, sugarcane, soya bean and mustard which are popular among farming community. He has guided one Ph.D student and 3 M.Sc (Ag) students as minor advisor in crop physiology. He has handled projects of aerobic rice, rainfed sugarcane, RKVY and TSP-AICRP on Sugarcane an out lay of 30 lakhs rupees from 2007 to 2022.

Dr.Rao worked extensively on screening sugarcane clones for moisture stress / drought, drought management practices, post harvest management in sugarcane. Dr.Rao was associated in the development and release three drought tolerant sugarcane cultures namely Haritha, Vasudha, Kanakamahalakshmi, Revathi, Simhadri, Naveen, Vasista. He standardized drought management technologies for drought prone areas of sugarcane, technologies for preventing post harvest cane quality deterioration under delayed situations of cane harvest and transport. He has also developed nutrient deficiency symptoms and documented for ready reference for researchers and workers. He was also involved in identification and release of two paddy cultures namely Indur samba (RDR 763) and Pelala Vadlu (RDR 8702) which are popular among farming community of Northern telangana of telangana state.

He is very well experienced in sugarcane research, teaching, extension and administration activities.

Associated in measuring Glucose coefficient and Titratable acidity index(TAI) as an identified marker in post harvest cane quality deteoration in sugarcane and also ssociated in measuring water use efficiency(WUE) of aerobic rice culture under aerobic rice cultivation during 2009-10.

Associated in estimation of SOD (super oxide dismutase enzyme) activity in sugarcane stress conditions during 2010-11.

Associated in study of cane quality deteoration under mechanical harvesting in the form of billets 2011-12.

Associated in identification and development of a sugarcane clones 2001A63 released for general cultivation in the name of Kanakamahalakshmi, which was an sucrose rich sugarcane variety with drought tolerance during 2012-13.

Instrumentalized in estimation of extraneous matter inclusion under mechanical harvesting(billets) which is leading to quick cane quality deterioration over normal whole cane harvesting during 2013-14.

Associated in identification of sucrose rich early mature in sugarcane clone 2005A128 with drought tolerance and high yielding released for general cultivation by CVRC in the name of Sreemukhi during 2018-19.

Associated in identification and release of two sugarcane varieties by State varietal release committee in the names of Vasista (2009A 107) and Naveen (2009A 252) for general cultivation during 2021-22.

Associated in identification of a prominent sugarcane clone 2015A 233 suitable both for moisture stress and waterlogging stress of sugarcane cultivation in Andhra Pradesh during 2022-23.

In addition to research activity in the post of principal scientist crop physiology at RARS Anakapalle, he was also handled the post of NSS officer of APT,RARS Anakapalle during 2009-2015.
